Homework
The purpose of homework in my classroom is to review and practice areas that need to be strengthened. Homework will consist primarily of AR, math facts review, Math Practice book (If not completed in class), and memorization of a weekly Bible verse. I will also assign a few projects that will require some extra time. Weekend homework may occur a few times throughout the year; however, it is not my intention to take your weekend time away. I understand this is time usually spent with family, church, and sometimes weekend vacations, so I have tried to consider these factors in my scheduling of assignments. However, sometimes this extra time during the weekend is helpful for many students to catch up on some reading and practice their math facts.
On average students should expect to have the following assignments for each night:
Power School
Progress grades (hard-copy) and missing assignment sheets will be sent out mid-quarter and two weeks before the end of the quarter, as an additional resource. Please do not wait till mid-quarter to inquire about your child’s progress. As a teacher, I try my best to keep Power School (PS) updated on a weekly basis. Once on Power School, if you have a question or concern, please email or message me on ClassDojo, so we may discuss how to help the student. Each student in 3rd-12th grade will be assigned a PS user name and password. Please check student progress at least every other week.
Communication Binders
Communication binders will contain important materials such as student work, progress reports, permission slips, and information from the school or teacher. If a permission slip or a test needs to be signed, it will need to be returned to class by the requested date in the same folder. Students will then be responsible for turning it into the teacher, as I do not check their binders on a daily basis. Please follow up with your student to make sure they have done so.
Agenda
Organization is vital to your child’s success this year. Your child has been given an organizer (a.k.a Agenda). When used correctly, this agenda will be a resource for your child in helping with daily assignments, test dates, and reminders. Each day the student will record in their agenda the daily schedule. Students are encouraged to highlight work that was not completed in class, so they may complete it at home. The agenda will be taken home to use as a resource for the students to check-off work that has been completed and to see what needs to be completed at home.
I do NOT require a daily signature. I don’t check for your signature, but I do encourage for you to check your child’s agenda on a daily basis, so you, the parent, are aware what was completed and what was NOT completed. I use the agenda as an additional resource for students and parents. I also have an incentive for students to encourage getting parents to sign their agendas. 25 signatures = 1 free assignment pass.
Late Work
It is very important for all assignments to be submitted on time. If your child has a missing assignment, they must submit the assignment in order to receive credit. Otherwise, at the end of the quarter, zero points will be inserted for any missing assignment. Please keep track of Power School, as this is a great resource to keep track of all submitted and missing assignments. I try to work with the student to help relocate “missing” work. Students may try to find or complete the missing assignment in class, at recess, or after-school, if possible.
Make-up Work
When students are absent, they are able to make-up their missed work. A family member may pick up the student’s work; otherwise, the student may take it home once they’re back in school. Please turn make-up work in promptly.
Parents: Please contact me in advance if you know that your child will be absent.
Redoing Work
When students do not get a good score on an assignment, they may fix their errors and turn the assignment in again to be re-graded for more points. Parents should guide students in this process, if desired, but not fix mistakes for them. Students may not correct missed questions on tests.

Snacks
A good breakfast makes for a great day of learning. Since breakfast is so early for the students, they may eat a healthy snack during morning recess. NO cookies, candy, or other sweets during this time. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school with them. Please be sure to clean water bottles regularly.
Birthdays
I love celebrating students’ birthdays! On a student’s birthday, I will give a small gift to the student and the class will sing “Happy Birthday”. If you would like to bring in any treats on your child’s birthday, please contact me in advance. I will allot 20 minutes of the day for a birthday celebration if you contact me in advance. Summer Birthdays – September and May/June are great times to celebrate, just let me know. Please send in enough treats for the whole class. We have 23 students in our class. Make it simple—cupcakes, popsicles, cookies, etc. Please do not bring treats with peanuts due to severe peanut allergies.
